Microneedling is also known as percutaneous collagen induction (PCI) or collagen induction therapy (CIT) as one of its main goals is to help your body produce collagen. Collagen plays a role in skin health by reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. Microneedling promotes the body’s own collagen-creating process by using microneedles to create tiny punctures in the skin. At Trifecta Wellness, we offer medical microneedling. You may have also heard of cosmetic microneedling. The difference between these two methods has to do with the depth of needle insertion. Cosmetic needling goes up to a depth of 0.3mm while medical microneedling is capable of depths beyond this. At Trifecta Wellness, we utilize Candela’s Exceed Device which is capable of a depth of up to 1.5mm. Various research studies note that depths beyond this do not produce better results and may cause more harm than benefits. The Exceed device is also the only microneedling device to be cleared by the FDA to treat both facial wrinkles and acne scarring. Additionally, the device has a patented tilting plate to adapt to the skin’s surface and optimize results while minimizing trauma.
